The Cooperative Community of New West Jackson (Co-op NWJ) serves an 8-block African American neighborhood of New West Jackson, MS that has suffered from high poverty, blight, and lack of investments and support. Co-op NWJ is a grassroots effort to rebuild a sense of community and create real financial opportunities that are based on community members’ ownership of assets. AmbitioUS is providing a one-year general operating support grant to support Co-op NWJ and its leaders who are using place-based, community economic development in ways that lead to ownership and financial sustainability for a historically marginalized African American neighborhood of West Jackson, MS.
