neighborbuilt, LLC

neighborbuilt, LLC (neighborbuilt) is the brainchild of Ebony and Dan Edwards – long-time residents of Kansas City – who have experienced the challenges of trying to secure, repair, and (re)build affordable housing, in historically Black neighborhoods. neighborbuilt has the vision to develop large-scale, attainable, owner-occupied housing in neighborhoods historically impacted by systems of extraction and neglect across the country. While some development efforts focus on a single block or sections of a neighborhood, neighborbuilt is pursuing change at the unit of the census tract, covering entire neighborhoods and communities, and helping thousands of residents at a time. Its initial work and focus is centered in the historically Black community of South Vine District, located on the east side of Kansas City, Missouri. As part of neighborbuilt’s comprehensive plan to fund the development project, it will combine cooperative and conventional forms of finance and ownership to foster a robust and sustainable structure. AmbitioUS provided $30,000 in project support for legal counsel as they devise a strategy for structuring its entity(ies), finances, and fundraising models.
